Happy Monday!
The delivery date of the Chromebooks is quickly approaching. As educators in this district we are being asked to begin exposing your child to the Chromebooks , applications, and new management techniques needed to participate in an online, interactive, learning environment. We realize that this is a significantly different way of educating your child which will require parents, students as well as staff members to undergo major shifts in thinking. The learning curve will be substantial.
Please join us in this endeavor by staying informed, keeping an open mind and seeking support when needed. Everyone responds to change differently. I'm hoping that we can all move forward as a team, with patience, understanding and flexibility. Being trailblazers is an exciting prospect. Please know that we have your child's best interest at heart and will do our best to lead them down this innovative new path.
Most sincerely,

Vogel Reading -
2nd Quarter Required Genres
1. Science Fiction
2. Historical Fiction
3. Mythology
New AR goals will be set this week after STAR testing is complete. Goals will be lower this quarter as we will be starting a novel and students will be given less class time to read independently. The AR program generates goals based on your child's specific reading level and the amount of minutes required for daily independent reading. Even though a projection is suggested for the students, I discuss the goal with each child to determine an appropriate number of points based on that child's learning style and rate. As a parent, please ask yourself if you would be content for your child to read for the rest of his/her life at his or her current level. It is with this question in the back of your mind, that we should encourage your child to read as much as possible this year. The only way to become a better reader is to apply strategies taught in class while reading everyday.
* Give the gift of literacy this Christmas. Scholastic book catalogues will be sent home this week. Please consider ordering and helping our class to earn free books.
