In Social Studies students are expected to work in pairs for daily assignments to develop social and collaboration skills. Partnerships are formed based on learning style inventory results, boy/girl partnerships, friendships, new relationships, and academic partnering which I chose for students. By providing the kids with a variety of groupings (doctor appts. - see your child's handout), they learn very quickly who they work well with in the content area. Just because a child partners effectively with someone in math doesn't mean they will do so in Social Studies. Please ask your son or daughter who they will be working with this quarter.
Midway through class and sometimes right at the beginning of the hour, students participate in a body break or brain gym, designed to enhance learning. For more info on the connection between exercise and learning, check out this video clip and you, too, can try out some of the exercises posted on my Weebly. The kids are doing the Continental Drift and the Chicken Dance in the above photos.
Scholastic Book orders are due by Friday. Please order online and help me earn points to get new books for our classroom library. Books on our classroom wish list include the following if you would like to donate:
1. Ungifted - Gordan Korman
2. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck - Jeff Kinney
3. 2014 World Record Book
5. Stranded 2 - Trial by Fire
Students should be almost half way to their AR goals by now. Check with your child to see their reading log and sign up for AR updates when your child takes tests, so there are no surprises at the end of the quarter.
