6th Grade Social Studies
BASIC COURSE OF STUDY - The Western Hemisphere
Success in sixth grade Social Studies is heavily dependent on reading comprehension, so it is advised that students listen to the audio while reading the text. Multiple readings are also suggested as informational text is more complex and “fact dense” than narrative. Vocabulary acquisition is also extremely important. (Earbuds are essential in this class. Students who struggle with reading need to hear the text read and vocabulary pronounced accurately. This poses a distraction to others if a child needs to listen to a passage more than once to reinforce their learning.
Short (10 min.) but frequent (daily) study sessions are recommended to learn content and be able to retrieve it for tests and exams.
The following notes the textbooks and chapters we will be studying each quarter.
