Good Bye Canada - Hello Mexico!
Our Canada unit is over, and we shared a bit of their culture during our last class. A friend of mine was born in Canada and was returning to visit her relatives, so I asked if she would bring back some candy for the kids to try. We found two of the treats to be very similar and two not so much. There was an agreement that the Canadian chocolate was creamier than ours, but didn't taste as sweet.
Ch. 2 Mexico is our next unit, and this chapter will involve a contract. Materials can be found on the weebly (Mexico page). Students are to download the document and have you sign it to verify you are aware of the expectations. We are making Aztec and Mayan masks beginning Monday, February 24, so students will need 3-4 pieces of scrapbooking paper that look like natural materials such as bark, leaves, grass, metals (gold, silver, copper), animal prints and jewel tones. Donations are appreciated! (Aztec masks and fiesta photos from last year can be viewed in the photo album on the home page.
Our Mexico unit will end with a fiesta. Students will be asked to make a Mexican food to contribute or they may make a multimedia presentation on the Mexican culture to share the day of our fiesta. I will have some very basic recipes for the kids to choose from, or they may find something on their own. No Taco Bell! The Ch. 2 Test will be the first week of March. Date TBD.
As I begin the process of making Social Studies internet based and iteractive, please bear with me. This is a learning process for all of us.
Thank you for reading!
