Dear Parents,
Chromebooks - Students have set up about 7 different usernames and passwords with many more to come. A document in their Google drives should contain all of them but students will also be encouraged to write down network and Google usernames and passwords in their assignment books. Attempting to log in can be very frustrating if your child has difficulty remembering these numbers, so we attempt to keep them organized by sharing with you our strategies for keeping track of their personal information. Please ask to see this document and the assignment book so you can help them remember if they are having difficulty logging in to things at home.
Edmodo Calendar- The calendar in Edmodo is my chosen communication tool this year for keeping you abreast of upcoming assignments, tests, special events, etc. Your child is expected to enter personal assignments due and show you this nightly in lieu of the assignment book. I will also be entering dates to help them with keeping on top of things. No signature is required. Please realize that I must be flexible when sending out due dates. I try to make adjustments based on how my students are progressing. In the event I do not feel they are prepared, for a variety of reasons, I reserve the right to reschedule tasks entered on the calendar. It is a living document, ever changing.
Absent Work - In the event your child misses class, absent work is posted daily on Edmodo. If I can share an activity or document electronically, I will. However, we have just started the process of switching over to online curriculum, so some things are still in hard copy form and must be picked up from class when your child returns. Missing for an illness is understandable and can not be avoided. Absences due to vacations are a personal choice. Please realize that missed classroom instructional time is unrecoverable. Assignments can be completed but the learning that occurs leading up to the assignment is lost, causing large gaps in your child's education.
HAC is our official gradebook. Edmodo has a gradebook component but it does not include all grades. We are learning how to use this application via trial and error, so practice assignments have been entered allowing us to see how the gradebook functions.
Students are expected to have a pair of ear buds with them at all times so they may listen to assigned videos, play review games, and take tests without bothering other students. The office has ear buds for sale ($2 and $5). You can also purchase them at Dollar General for $1. I do have some headphones that can be borrowed if earbuds are forgotten, but this is in case of an emergency.
The Home Access Center (HAC) is a tool all students and parents should have passwords and usernames for at this time. Students are expected to review their HAC acct. each morning at 7:20 A.M. and keep track of their missing assignments. If you do not have a parent account set up, please contact either Mrs. Brieschke in the front office (850-6203) or the help desk (850-6095).
Renaissance Home Connect – Parents will know exactly where their child is in the pursuit of an AR goal at all times by registering for Renaissance Home Connect. Current points, scores on tests, book titles, etc. are at your fingertips and will prevent there being any surprises when grade cards are shared. A personalized Home Connect letter should have come home with your child providing a specific username and password for his/her individual account. Please set this up as soon as possible so you are able to track how your child is progressing.
Thank you for reading!
Here is a shot outside of my door 3 min. after the bell rang. Believe it or not, this is actually pretty low traffic volume. 1 min. after the bell it is usually at a standstill.
